Everton’s hopes of avoiding relegation from WSL 1 were given a boost after a 2-2 draw with Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Goals from Danielle Turner and Nikita Parris earned 10-man Everton a share of the spoils in a fiercely fought clash at The Select Security Stadium.

The result leaves Everton five points from safety with a game in hand on Notts County who currently lie seventh in the league on eight points.

Andy Spence’s side started the slower of the two sides, taking their time to get a foot-hold in the game. And they were probably lucky not to fall behind when a Natasha Dowie effort was cleared off the line by Alex Greenwood.

But that quickly turned around. On the half hour mark, Everton began to bring themselves into it, with Nikita Parris providing a handful for Matt Beard’s side, forcing Liverpool goalkeeper Libby Stout to make two saves in quick succession.

Just minutes later, Everton made their pressure count when Stout failed to keep out Danielle Turners corner, giving the Blues the lead in an entertaining Merseyside derby.

After the opening goal, Everton frustrated Liverpool, preventing them to just long range shots, with Amanda Da Costa and Kate Longhurst firing wide of goal.

But with just minutes remaining in the first half, Natasha Dowie supplied a cool finish to bring the Reds back level.

Liverpool turned the game around just minutes into the restart after a neat exchange between Dowie and Kate Longhurst created an opening in the box and Longhurst slotted past Brown-Finnis to give the reigning champions a 2-1 lead.

Liverpool’s lead didn’t last long and Parris, who was a handful for the Red’s backline throughout the game, showed sublime skill and strength to go past challenges and fire low into the bottom corner.

As the game entered into the latter stages it showed no signs of slowing down with both sides searching for the winner.

Brooke Chaplen and Michelle Hinnigan had chances for the Blues before a Natasha dowie header looked to have given Liverpool all three points but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Nikita Parris saw red in the dying minutes after she received a second yellow for a challenge on Becky Easton but that would have no effect on the final outcome as both teams took a share of the spoils in an entertaining evening at The Select Security Stadium.
